Easter Lilies
Every year in Holy Week, an altar is garlanded with white lilies and the Sacrament is placed amidst the flowers on Maundy Thursday: this represents Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, before he is betrayed and crucified. Here, before his death, Jesus prays for himself, but also for his disciples. And so, it is our tradition to remember our loved ones who have died, by praying for them and also by asking Jesus to pray for them. On way to do this is to dedicate a lily to someone: their names will then be written on a card placed underneath the Sacrament—that is, Christ covers them with his love.
